The Club’s next meeting will be our annual Christmas party at Kiama Downs Surf Club. Members, family and friends will share an evening relaxing by the beach as we reflect upon the meaning of the season, our accomplishments throughout the year and good cheer.
We will keep busy during the Christmas and New Year period with several fund-raising activities, including barbeques at the Seaside Markets on Sunday, December 17, and the Fireworks and Laser Show at Black Beach on New Year’s Eve.
We will hold the 27th Annual Kiama Rotary Antiques and Retro Fair at Kiama Leisure Centre on Saturday, January 20, and Sunday January 21. Doors will be open on Saturday from 9:30am to 5:00pm and from 10:30am to 3pm on Sunday. Admission is: $10 for adults, $7 for concessions while children under 16 are free.
This is our largest single fund-raiser of the year and all funds raised go to support various local and international humanitarian projects including: local mental health courses, polio eradication and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).
KIAMA LIONS
Last week there was a lot of activity behind the scenes at our Carers cottage. Firstly, we were able to submit our DA to the Council planners. The long delay had been caused by the requirement to have that area rezoned for use as accommodation, because it was originally Industrial. This had to involve the State Planners who are very busy.
We are most grateful to Brian Nolan of 3 Bridges Community Services who visited the site and advised on all the Government regulations for disabled access, bathroom and toilet facilities etc, giving us some very useful tips that we might otherwise have missed.
We are also extremely grateful to Elizabeth Burnett and the good folks at Burnetts on Barney for their donation to our funds with the instructions that it be spent on something nice! We also received another from the Legacy Club of South Coast and Wollongong for which we are grateful.
Our club has its Christmas party last week and our first dinner meeting in January will be our annual "back in the saddle” one at the Rugby Club house.
