Members of the Kiama Mens Shed have dedicated much of their time and talent to renovating the important community fundraising box.
Kiama Friends of Vision Australia member Col Rathbone was excited to unveil the new design.
“The Kiama Friends of Vision Australia gave these boys a mission to rebuild the lighthouse collection box,” he said.
“The old one had stood outside the old Mitre 10 store for 30 years.”
Initially the collection box was given to the Mens Shed for a few running repairs, but after some discussion and examination it was decided to give the miniature lighthouse a makeover.
Naturally, the collection box is inspired by Kiama’s historic lighthouse on Blowhole Point, which the men felt represented the area perfectly.
It was in the workshop for six months and threw up a few challenges for the crew working on it.
The group wished to extend their thanks to Jonathan Britton from Kiama Smash and Mechanical who painted the box at no charge to the community group.
To make a donation, visit the collection box located outside The Collective on Terralong Street, Kiama during business hours.
