Council received a letter from the director of the festival seeking additional funding, which also referred to the financial losses that have been incurred over the past two festivals, making it unsustainable.
The Jazz and Blues Festival is a key tourist and community event and provides a huge amount of affordable entertainment for visitors and residents.
The motion was carried to increase the funding at a council meeting on Tuesday night.
“They are in a financial position they would like to get out of and $20,000 would cover that for this year,” Cr Matt Brown said.
“If we provide them security of funding back to $14,000 the following year, that should give them plenty of time to ensure all their sponsors and budget meet the targets of the festival.”
The festival attracts quality performers year on year and the next festival will be held from March 9 to 11, 2018.
