“Jackaroo squad members Aron Sherrif, Ray Pearse and Corey Wedlock will be here,” Kiama Bowling Club’s Adam Rodgers said.
“Current and former NSW squad members Mat Pieterson, Tom Ellem, David Ferguson and Nathan Dawson will also play.
“Kiama applied for the event more than 12-months ago and were awarded the event. Kiama is known to have some of the best playing surfaces on the coast.
“Spectators will be treated to the highest standard of bowling with the quality players attending.”
Rodgers said former Australian junior champion Dylan Skinner from Wiseman Park was a local hopeful in the singles, and former Jackaroo Shane Garvey/Luke Cocksedge from Wiseman Park in the pairs.
Cocksedge said the fast greens at Kiama Bowling Club should suit he and Wiseman Park clubmate Garvey.
Cocksedge and Garvey have an early look at the Kiama surface this Saturday (Nov 18) when their take on defending champ Aaron Teys’s Warilla team in the Zone 16 Champion of Club Champion Fours.
The Fours event final is on Sunday (Nove 19) with the NSW COC Pairs to kick off on Tuesday (Nov 21) with Wisos to meet Zone 13s Mark Ridell-Andrew Grove (Alexandria-Erskineville) in the round of 16.
Cocksedge says Kiama Bowling Club has some of the best greens in the Illawarra.
“They are always in terrific order, nice and fast and I know it’s the type of green myself and Garves (Shane Garvey) like to play on,” Cocksedge said.
“Hopefully we’ll play well and get through a round or two.”
Garvey won the Zone 16 Fours and Triples this year, with Cocksedge a partner in his Fours rink which lost in the round of 16 at the State Championships last month.
“It was a huge buzz to win the Zone Fours and play state… but there’s bit more responsibility playing pairs,’’ Cocksedge said.
‘’Shane and I go way back and what always works for us is having a very relaxed approach.
“We’ll have a red hot go, but have some laughs and take a casual approach into the Champion of Club Champs Pairs.’’
The pairs favourites are two-time reigning South Pacific singles champion Corey Wedlock and Ray Pearse, representing Cabramatta (Zone 12).
In Singles, Dylan Skinner faces Zone 1’s Kris Lehfeldt (Ballina) in the round 16 on November 23.
Nowra’s Jamie Turner is the Zone 7 rep and takes on Australian Indoor winner David Ferguson (Engadine) in the Rd of 16.
Some of the best bowlers in Australia are in the Singles draw, including Aron Sherriff (Ettalong Memorial), Tom Ellem (Merrylands), Mathew Pietersen (St Johns Park), David Ferguson, and Kurri Kurri’s Nathan Dawson.
Meanwhile, 15 clubs have nominated its Fours champion for this Saturday’s Zone 16 Champion of Club Champion Fours.
The tournament has been running since 1999 with a different club winning the past 10 years.
Illawarra’s smallest club Kembla Heights are represented by Bob Upton and partners, who take on Jared Hamilton’s Woonona rink first-up.
The final on Sunday, November 19 is scheduled for 1pm.
