The Gerringong second grade side went down in a very close, nail biting finish to Lake Illawarra. Batting first, Gerringong reached a total of 192 off their 50 overs after being in deep trouble early at 6/53.
It took a mighty 86 run partnership between Dominic Coop (18) and Callum Young (58no - scoring his first senior grade half century) to reach the competitive total.
After losing three early wickets, the Lakers steadied in the middle order with a century partnership between Nik Biracoski and Jackson Burns.
Gerringong fought back again with regular wickets, however Lakers fell over the line with one wicket in hand scoring 9/193 in the 41st over (Jimmy St Quintin – 3/34; Ryan Micallef – 2/14; Doug Davison – 2/30).
Gerringong fourth grade had a good win against Albion Park to keep them firmly in the top four.
Batting first, Gerringong put on 6/286 from their 42 overs with the star Dan Buchanan scoring his maiden century for the Jets (Dan Buchanan – 100no; Paul Peterson 55; Nathan ward 40 off 15 balls). Albion Park never looked likely to chase down the total scoring 7/136 from their 42 overs (Joe Blackburn 2/29; Joel Spain 1/9; Pete Parker 1/13).
The Gerringong U12 side had another desperately close loss to rivals Kiama Blue in a wonderful match. Batting first Gerringong amassed a highly competitive total scoring 7/149 off their 30 overs (James Kunkler 33no; Will Speering 28no).
Kiama’s innings started slowly and Gerringong seemingly had done enough with Kiama being 3/51 at the half way mark.
However, some aggressive batting by Taj Hooper (37rtno), Kade Ovenden (24no) & Toby Trudgett (21no) put Kiama within reach of Gerringong’s total and with two balls to spare the winning runs were scored (James Kunkler 2/12; Ben Jackson 1/15; Abbey Speering 1/15.
The Gerringong U11 Green team had their second win in a row defeating Albion Park Gold. Gerringong scored 3/136 off their 20 overs and restricted Kookas Blue to 4/56. The Gerringong U11 Gold team had a draw against Albion Park Gold as there was no play due to rain.
