A woman had fled the house by the time firefighters arrived at McBrien Place at 12am on Saturday.
She was comforted by neighbours as flames engulfed her home.
She was the sole occupant at the time, and neighbours from properties on either side of the house were evacuated.
Kiama Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters worked for six hours through the night to contain the house fire.
Flames were burning through the roof when they arrived, the roof had collapsed, and they soon realised the large house was unsalvageable.
They worked to protect neighbouring homes, which have not been damaged.
The house backs onto a leafy reserve, which did not catch fire.
Fire crews have been monitoring the house this morning to keep a watch on the smouldering debris.
