Penny Melville-Brown lost her sight serving in the navy, and applied to win the $25,000 prize that has allowed her to travel the world.
In and around Kiama, she will bake with some incredible local chefs including the Kiama Country Women’s Association ladies.
“This is my chance to show just what blind people can do and I’m thrilled that local people are keen to get involved,” Penny said.
“Just because I can’t see doesn’t mean that I don’t have bags of ambition, capabilities and a huge drive to change attitudes towards blindness and other disabilities.”
Penny set up a company to help other people with disabilities into work.
What’s on
Wednesday November 1 at 11am: Bush Tucker Cooking at Seven Mile Beach. Penny will cook traditional bush tucker by preparing fish wrapped in paperbark and cooked on hot coals. She will also create a lemon myrtle cheese cake.
Thursday November 2 at 1pm: CWA Chocolate cake bake off in Kiama.
Sunday, November 5 at 1pm. Neighbourhood BBQ showcasing Iranian meats in Kiama at 1pm
Tuesday, November 7 at 9.30am: Wine and food matching with Raj Ray at the Silos Winery in Jaspers Brush.
