In 2018, for the very first time, women’s competitive league football will be played in Jamberoo Valley.
Club president, Steve Whitworth, said demand for football in Jamberoo had increased dramatically in recent years and in 2017 they had five men’s teams competing.
“The facilities in Jamberoo are fantastic, we are respected for our fair play and our Club has a wonderful social aspect,” he said.
“Increasingly, we have been approached by ladies wanting to play for the club and we feel that now is the right time to launch a ladies team in Jamberoo.”
Jamberoo Football Club’s roots were formed under the watchful eye of the late Johnny Warren, a resident in the village.
“It wasn’t unusual for Johnny to be seen sitting on the grass at Keith Irvine Oval supporting the club,” Mr Whitwirth said
“He’d be more than willing to speak at our presentation nights, ending with his catch-cry we don’t just want to compete in the World Cup….we want to win it!”
The Warren family and Jamberoo Pub have supported Jamberoo Football Club since the first ball was kicked in 1995 and their commitment to the game continues to this day.
Ladies wishing to consider playing football in Jamberoo can contact club secretary, Danny Gades, on 0402 269457 or via email on jamberoofc@outlook.com.
“As a great social club, we train all year round on a Wednesday evenings at Kevin Walsh Oval from 6.15pm,” Mr Whitworth said.
“Afterwards, we usually retire to Jamberoo Pub to debrief with Ross and Jamie Warren. Any ladies wanting to come down and join in are more than welcome.”
