Director of engineering and works, Gino Belsito, said the new volleyball court follows the success of similar courts in Wollongong.
“This is a simple, low-cost way for Council to provide a service that promotes healthy and active lifestyles for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Belsito said.
“Surf Beach is already a focus for people wanting to enjoy swimming, walking and other exercise, so it’s a great location for beach volleyball.”
Council crews have prepared the court, adjacent to the surf clubhouse, installing the boundary tape and bases for the poles.
The net will be erected during patrols hours, with volleyballs available from the lifeguards or volunteer lifesavers on duty.
