Australian Women’s Amputee Golf champion Kathleen Tanner will carry the baton, along with Kiama SES and church volunteer David Leigh.
Kath has always been involved in a variety of sports both as a participant and as a volunteer.
In 2010 while she was visiting London to present her doctorate thesis she was involved in a horrific bus crash which nearly killed her.
She sustained terrible injuries to her hands and sadly lost her leg below the knee.
Ever the optimist, Kath worked extremely hard to deal with her prosthesis and ongoing problems with her hands.
She was back volunteering for children’s activities, returned to her hockey team and in 2016 and 2017 she won the Australian Women's Amputee Golf Championship.
David is a quiet man but lives an inspiring life of serving and volunteering.
He has been an SES member for 24 years including Deputy Local Controller for six years and Local Controller for 15 years.
He is regularly up at night helping people in need.
David was volunteer treasurer of his church for decades.
And this was all on top of his work in the local council making Kiama a better place for 20 years.
