The Southern Region contingent of the eighth annual Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance congregated at Kiama police station in the morning before setting off for Exhibition Park in Canberra.

The group joined up with different contingents along the way, until the pack reached around 2500 from around the country.

“The police family are a close-knit group who support each other and their families in a way which makes me very proud,” NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.

A short ceremony was held at the National Police Memorial in remembrance of officers who have died as a result of their service; their names recorded on the touch stones of the memorial wall.

The ride highlights the positive image of police in the promotion of motorcycle safety and awareness as well as raising money for police charity organisations.

This year was the first time event partnered with the Centre for Road Safety, promoting Towards Zero – the road safety campaign that highlights the human element of the road toll and encourages all road users to change the way we think about road safety.

Wall to Wall began in 2009 by two keen police officers (Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy from the NSW Police Force and Inspector Brian Rix of the Victorian Police) who were inspired by the American Ride for the Fallen.
