After winning both grade championships and premierships in 2015 and 2016 the teams are looking to do it again if they can win next weeks grand finals.
First grade lost only three games all season, which saw them crowned competition champions for three straight years.
With the loss of most of first grade from 2016 including star players Chelsea Ford, Jane Keel, Emily Ryan, Kelsey Wishart , Gabbbie Burns and Kim Cutting, the team had to work hard to defend the title.
The youthful reserve grade squad stepped up and slowly started playing good football, a 5 – 1 loss to Sussex Inlet and an early loss to Illaroo had them sitting third for most of the season. Some strong form at the end allowed the Breakers to leapfrog favourites Illaroo to claim the title.
The Breakers were to rely heavily on Claire Farqhuar and Georgia Culey to get the goals.
Defensively the Breakers were sound, only conceding 14 goals throughout the season. Lauren Mulhall was super in goals Tara Culey and Audrey Pring kept the middle tight and were often setting up the attacking plays, backed up by Ange Bowen and Mel as fullbacks.
A fast and well organised defensive structure of the mid-field pairing of Chloe Café and Zoe Cook and wingers Bella and Mysti Foye made the important links from defence to attack, their defensive work rate was second to none.
Reserve grade continued where they left off in 2016, losing only two games all season. They were the dominant team all season, scoring over 50 goals and only conceding 12, the young team ranging from 16 to 21 years play bright entertaining football.
They have a great attitude and belief in each other and with a lack of numbers, most players backed up to play first grade also.
What a fantastic season and congratulations to each of the players.
