The Show Ball promises to be a night of fun, dancing and laughter with a fun new MC, fantastic band and funky DJ enlisted to get the party going. Early bird tickets are available now for just $35 from www.kiamashow.com.au.
Kiama’s own favourite Kazadorian immigrant Kiki Bittovabitsch (AKA comedian Tamara Campbell) will commandeer the MC mic, DJ Brendon Comber is in charge of spinning tunes and sensational Wollongong band The Record Breakers will have everyone on the dance floor.
Show Ball co-ordinator Fiona Wilkinson said there would be something for everyone at the Ball.
“The Show Ball has always been an iconic event in our community calendar,’’ Mrs Wilkinson said.
“It is a chance for people to catch up with friends and let their hair down. We've worked closely with a lot of local entertainers and suppliers to ensure 2018 will be a whole new kind of Show Ball, but what won’t be different is that it’s going to be a whole lot of fun."
The Show Ball is a major fundraiser with all proceeds going towards the hosting of the 2018 Kiama Show.
The release of Show Ball early bird tickets this week also marks the beginning of the search for the extra special 170th Show’s Showgirl.
The Showgirl Competition started in 1962 at the Sydney Royal and 1963 in Kiama. It's a way of recognising the important role young women have to play in regional communities.
The first winner of the “Miss Kiama Showgirl Quest”, as it was known, was 17-year-old Leigh Furner from Shellharbour.
Somewhat controversially in a sign of the times, as Miss Furner decided to marry, she withdrew from the zone judging.
Kiama was then represented by runner-up Kerrie Grey of Kiama.
The competition is a valuable opportunity for young women to learn confidence and poise as well as make new friends and win great prizes.
To be eligible, contestants need to be aged between 18 and 25. The Show Society is looking for young women who are passionate about the community, want to learn more about our area and are willing to represent our youth at committee meeting and public events.
Show Ball MC Kiki Bittovabitsch urged young women of Kiama to consider entering and for Kiama people embrace the Show Ball.
"Young chicky babes of Kiama, it is the timing for you to get your mojo out and be putting your best brains and generous hearts forward to compete for the showgirl sash,’’ Kiki said.
“I would be to kicking all your behinds if I was not too old.
“We all be counting down to the Showball party and I was to hoping that 2018 will see record entries in the show girl race and record pairs of feets on the dance floor at the party ball. We are seriously going to be rocking this town peeps. Come and join me for a good time."’
