Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden said the return of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle would make for some heated battles at this Saturday’s one-day event.
“The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series is one of the most passionately contested events we see each year,” Madden said.
“Surfing NSW have been running and managing events in the Kiama region for the better part of a decade now and it consistently delivers quality conditions for competitors.”
The three South Coast clubs will compete against teams from Bondi, Southbridge, Jones Beach, Maroubra, Woonona, Scarborough, Sandon Point, Elouera, Cronulla Point and Cronulla Sharks.
Culburra Beach’s team will include Beau Buckpitt, Keira Buckpitt, Jordi Watson, Ricky Tucker, Tom Smith, Hayley Murray, Ben Buckpitt and Jordan Dank.
The main base for event two of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series is Bombo or Jones’ Beach.
Early swell forecasts indicate that there will be a three-to-four foot south swell on offer for competitors.
All competitors are advised to call the event hotline (0458 247 212) by 6.45am on the days of competition to confirm location and running order.
The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National final in NSW in February 2017 for 24 clubs.
This weekend’s event will see 13 of the best boardriders clubs in NSW battle it out for a spot in the national final set to run in Newcastle, NSW in February 2018.
The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.
The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide.
In the past four years, Surfing Australia has invested over $600,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.
