Drivers had to be rescued from floodwaters, schools were closed, homes were evacuated and roads shut as torrential rain wreaked havoc across the Illawarra on August 25, 2015.
The region woke to find itself at the epicentre of an East Coast Low which developed off the northern part of the Illawarra coast the previous night.
Consistent heavy rainfall amassed totals approaching 200 millimetres in places, delivering some areas their wettest day in 17 years.
The following day – August 26, 2015 – saw the torrential rain move south, leaving its destructive mark on the Shoalhaven.
Hundreds of people evacuated from their homes after the Shoalhaven was drenched by two-day rainfall totals of more than 400 millimetres.

Tomerong recorded 439 millimetres in the 48 hours to 9am on August 26, 2015, while Nowra copped 390 millimetres in the same period – its wettest 48 hours in more than 100 years of records.
