Director of engineering and works, Gino Belsito, said the longer opening was being trialled for six months, until February 24, 2018.
“The trial is to properly gauge the demand for Saturday afternoon openings during the spring and summer, when it is likely to get most use especially by gardeners,” Mr Belsito said.
“Residents can use this trial period to drop off any garden waste they can’t fit in their green bins or make use of the Community Recycling Centre,” Mr Belsito said.
Mr Belsito reminded residents there was a charge for dropping off garden waste:
- Utilities and trailer loads $25.00.
- Utilities and trailer half-loads $14.00.
- Cars $10.00.
“The fees levied are based on a cost-recovery basis, not to make a profit.
“However, residents wishing to avoid paying for dropping off green waste are strongly encouraged to use their green bins, which get collected from their kerb each week.”
The Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Facility is located at 446 Riverside Drive, Minnamurra.
A full list of what can be dropped off for free at the Community Recycling Centre is available from council’s website at www.kiama.nsw.gov.au.
