“The game was played at a very high standard, with few errors throughout the game. Our biggest challenge was stopping the oppositions’ two big front rowers, who weighed over 100kg each,” coach Peter Quine said.

The half time score was 6-0 to Kiama, thanks to an intercept to Callum Roberts, who found Kyle McCarthy in support who ran 60 metres to score next to the posts.

Early in the second half fullback Wes Pring made a try saving on the oppositions half back to keep St Joseph's to nil.

Momentum quickly turned back in Kiama’s favour and they were able to put three quick tries on.

Second rower Jaxon Lavender stepped close to the line and scored next to the posts, Taj Ford converted.

On the next set of six, Taj Ford dummied, went through some tired defence, stepped the fullback and scored a brilliant individual try under the posts. He added the conversion.

To seal the win, Hamish Stewart made a quick blind side play, giving winger Matt Laughton some space before Matt threw a basketball pass back inside for Hamish to score the try he started in the corner.

In the last five minutes St Joseph's scored two late consolation tries.

The team made the final after playing at four different gala days at Bomaderry, Albion Park, Cootamundra and culminating in the final at Dubbo.

“All 18 players played out of their skin, we had enough points to win the game we just had to match them physically which we did,” Mr Quine said.

“Congratulations to all 18 players who travelled out to Dubbo. It was a wonderful team win where every single player played their part.

“Thank you to Randall Pring who was inspirational running water during the game.”
