The mess Malcolm Turnbull has made of the same-sex marriage issue has made one thing perfectly clear.

At the end of the day, he’s looking out for No1.
Rather than doing the right thing and putting it to a vote on the floor of parliament, he buckled and saddled us with the pointless and stupid postal plebiscite.
Why? Because the government promised they would have a plebiscite and it’s the right thing to stick to your promises.
Well, that’s the lie they’re hiding behind.
Because, really, governments can and do dump promises all the time – remember Johnny Howard and his “core” and non-core” promises? Or Tony Abbott, who seemed to break a promise every time he opened his mouth?
If they can – and have – ditched other promises, why is Turnbull so keen to honour this one?
Because he wants to keep his job, that’s why.
At the end of the day doing the fair thing, the right thing, the decent thing takes a back seat to appeasing the arch conservative dinosaurs in his party, lest they vote him out.
Just so we’re clear – the fair thing here is not something so radical as making gay marriage legal. It’s simply means putting it to the floor of parliament and seeing which way the votes go.
You know, like absolutely every other decision this government has made.
It’s the decent thing because it sees gays and lesbians treated fairly and avoid all the offensive camouflaged homophobia of the “No” voters as they hide behind the cover of "political correctness” and “traditional marriage”.
And these are the people Malcolm Turnbull sided with, the people he decided he would please.
Who ever thought they’d see a multi-millionaire this fearful of losing his job?
