Kiama was a big winner at the Illawarra and South Coast Local Business Awards on Wednesday night with LP Entertainment taking out the award for Professional Services, The Hungry Monkey being named Business of the Year and Marnie Beauchamp, of McGrath Real Estate, named Business Person of the Year.

“It really was a great honour to be nominated, but to go on and win it was amazing,” LP Entertainment owner/operator Lincoln Piper said.
“I knew there were so many great businesses in the awards and could not believe it when they called my name out – an exciting moment, I was completely nervous and emotional, being put on the spot to make a speech when unexpected is always hard.”
Mr Piper said he tried to deliver high quality events and provide the best entertainment and services to Kiama.
“I work really hard at what I do – I create a lot of work for people in the local music industry,” he said.
“I'm really dedicated to what I do.
“This past twelve months I've delivered a brand new country festival; The Band Comp is back and going well.
“I enjoy delivering great entertainment for the venues I work for including Kiama Leagues which is just an amazing place. I work with so many great people there.”
LP Entertainment also assists many charity events.
“I have assisted several disadvantaged families with free music lessons and donations. I also donate to many local groups,” Mr Piper said.
“I have a long term vision and I'm ticking them off one box at a time – I hope one day to employ a lot more people than I do now and help the disadvantaged even more than I do now.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone that has got behind myself and my crew at LP Entertainment – keep live music alive, get off your couch and support local musicians and venues.”
Hungry Monkey’s Jack Alexander said he was really surprised and excited to take home an award.
“It all started out as a bit of an idea between myself and Taylor (Hudson) when we were about 18 years old. To finally see where it is today is more than I thought we would ever achieve. But we have because of all our loyal customers and staff,” he said.
Marnie Beauchamp, who has been with McGrath Real Estate for five years, said Wednesday’s night’s result was a great reward after a challenging year with many things happening in her life.
“I’ve been in business since 2000,” she said.
“I’ve owned a couple of real estate businesses and I opened two McGrath businesses in Berry and Kiama which has 10 staff. I just sold Berry not long ago. I work in the business with sales as well as owning and running it. It has been a hard year because I lost my mum and my dad went before that.”
Despite the challenges, Ms Beauchamp was recognised for being one of McGrath’s top 50 agents this year and was on the cover of Top Agents magazine.
“It has been a year of highlights for me, even though it has been a hard year,” she said.
Ms Beauchamp said she was extremely humbled to be named Business Person of the Year.
“To be honest, I was in complete shock and I had to look at the screen to see my photo,” she said.
“The presenter wasn't sure how to pronounce my name either, so that made it a little confusing also.
“It was extremely humbling and a such a proud moment for me. I was so nervous as I had not adequately prepared myself to win. My speech did not entail anything that I had wanted to say as the nerves just got the better of me.”
Ms Beauchamp said working with people to fulfil their dreams was the most fulfilling part of her job.
“Every day is different, we get to meet and learn about the triumphs and sadly the tragedies in people's lives and we do not take this lightly,” she said.
“We love to form a professional relationship of trust with our clients, as the best results are always achieved with teamwork, honesty and transparency.
“For me, nothing is more rewarding than surpassing my clients expectations and watching the joy when they realise their goal and they are then able to move forward with the next phase of their lives.
“I also love working within the team environment we have here. My staff are amazing and so supportive and we all work together, day in and day out, to provide the absolute best customer service possible – they are integral to the success of this business.”
