A group of young Illawarra Special Olympics athletes have returned from representing NSW at the Australian Special Olympics Junior National Games held on the Gold Coast, where they won a swag of medals.

The five athletes competed in swimming and basketball at Runaway Bay Sport Complex.
In the swimming events, Caleb Jordan won two bronze medals and two fifth placings, Callum Kirby Hayes took out two fourth placings, Chloe Williamson won a silver medal, a bronze medal and a fifth place, Chelsea York brought home four silver medals, and NSW team captain Charles McFarlane scored a gold medal and two bronze medals.
The athletes continued on from their success in the pool, when they swapped their swimming costumes for basketball uniforms.
Chelsea was part of the C grade silver medal-winning team, while Callum, Chloe and Caleb all took out silver with the B grade team and Charles was a member of the A grade team, which took out fourth place.
The five swimmers train with the Special Olympic Illawarra’s Swim Squad at Kiama Leisure Centre and were a credit to NSW and the Illawarra.
