The annual Kiama Classic Family Fun Bike Ride returns on Saturday, September 16, allowing cyclists taking in some of the best scenery in the Illawarra.

Road Safety Officer Janelle Burns said the Kiama Classic was a five kilometre ride suitable for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

“The ride starts at Black Beach and uses family-friendly off-road paths to take in Kiama Harbour, The Blowhole, Surf Beach and Kendalls Beach before returning to the start,” Ms Burns said.

There will also be a barbecue lunch available at the end of the ride.

“All you need is your bike, a helmet and $2 to take part, or $5 for a family, with all proceeds going to the Heart Foundation,” she said.

Cycling is both a fun and practical way to manage the 30 minutes of daily physical activity that can help to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Ms Burns said the Kiama Classic was part of NSW Bike Week from September 16 to 24, which promotes cycling for transport and recreation.

Bike Week provides an opportunity for new cyclists to improve their skills, reinforce road safety and road rules and highlight cycling as a safe and healthy option for short trips.

“Cycling is both a fun and practical way to manage the 30 minutes of daily physical activity that can help to achieve and maintain a healthy weight,” Ms Burns said.

“This in turn makes us a healthy community, which is a key objective of the Community Strategic Plan for Kiama.”

Details: Saturday, September 16 at Black Beach, Kiama Harbour, registration between 9am-10.30am.

Entry fee is $2 per person or $5 per family (all proceeds donated to the Heart Foundation).
