The current world one and two respectively were knocked out by Hawaiian Coco Ho and US’ Sage Erickson at Huntington Beach, California.
Culburra Beach’s Wright could only total 12.50, thanks to waves of 7.17 and 5.33 but that wasn’t enough, with Ho scoring a combined 12.86 from her two waves.
Likewise, Gerroa’s Fitzgibbons’ scores of 4.93 and 4.17, for a total of 9.10, wasn’t enough to oust Erickson, who totalled 10.74.
In the semi-finals, Ho will battle Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb and Erickson will go head to head with US’ Courtney Conlogue.
The next WSL event on the CT is the Swatch Trestles Women's Pro at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, California – which will run from September 6-17.
Wright is the reigning champion of the Trestles Women's Pro.
