Jamberoo ladies tennis club were trying not to make too much of a racket about their unprecedented success in the district tennis competition that wrapped up last week.

But, when the news spread that five Jamberoo teams had won the Kiama and Shellharbour competition in respective divisions, players were more than happy to reveal secrets to their success.
“Fun, fitness and friendship is our motto,” club secretary Bev Corfield said.
“You don’t have to do all three.”
Player May Godson admitted fitness is the value she adheres to the least.
The ladies chimed in with stories about the fun they have on court.
“Bev’s a very amusing player,” Robin Lawson said.
“She wins by cracking everyone up and breaking their concentration.”
Unlike a couple of young Australian tennis stars in the limelight for ducking tournaments due to injury and lack of motivation, the ladies, aged 51 to 78, will do anything for a hit.
“We’re tough, we don’t have injuries,” Diane Nolan said.
“A bit of Voltaren and off we go,” Ann Vaughan said.
Robin Lawson’s team took out the autumn night competition in straight sets at the grand final last Thursday.
“We were so far ahead we didn’t have to play the last set,” Lawson said.
“That was a relief.”
Lawson and many of the ladies owe thanks to Jamberoo coach Andrew Parker.
“You’re never too old to get a lesson,” she said.
More than 160 women play for Jamberoo, and their books are always open.
