Staged by local tastemakers Yours and Owls – the outfit behind the city’s largest and most successful music festival of the same name – the all ages festival will be held at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus on August 19.
Brisbane rock outfit Violent Soho and Sydney’s Cloud Control will headline, and are joined by The Kite String Tangle, Cub Sport, Fazerdaze, Sloan Peterson and Mookhi.
Announcing the last-minute festival on Friday morning, organisers said it was “not just a warm up for Yours and Owls Festival (held on September 30-October 1), but a roaring, blazing fire to celebrate the approaching end of winter.”
The festival will form part of UOW’s open day for prospective students.
While it will be open to all ages, minors wishing to attend the event must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Tickets will be $65, or $59 for pre-release.
According to a development application with Wollongong City Council, the acts will perform on the vacant area behind the Science Centre, near Campus East residences.
“The site is designed to accommodate up to 4000 people,” the plans say. “It Includes one stage, one bar, 40 portable toilets and [five] food stalls.”
If approved by the council, the concert will run from 3pm to 11.30pm, plans say. The organisers are also seeking permission for “a number of fringe festival events”.
The development application for the event will be public exhibition until July 19.
