President David Smark handed over leadership of Kiama Rotary to incoming President Lloyd Chatfield at our Changeover Dinner last week.
David reported that the club had another very successful year and as well as having a very enjoyable time, we distributed over $57,000 to various local and international projects. This was in addition to the $50,000 grant previously allocated for the refurbishment of the Saddleback Mountain Southern Lookout and opened in November 2016. It was great to see the new lookout featured nationally on a recent Channel 9 Today Show broadcast from Kiama.
David commended Past President David Chambers for his co-leadership of the club prior to his relocation to Tasmania earlier this year.
Congratulations go to Past President Trevor Phillis who received the Robert East Award for being elected Rotarian of the Year as voted on by fellow members while Past President Mal Bracken and Rotarian Bobby East were each awarded a Paul Harris Fellow with Sapphire Pin for their ongoing dedication and commitment to helping others through Rotary.
KIAMA LIONS
Last week was the culmination of another very successful Lions Year. We raised and donated over $70,000 to International, National and local charities and families. That is always a source of great satisfaction to our members because it shows them who has received the benefit from their hard work throughout the past year.
Actually, our Changeover dinner was a relatively low-key affair, as all the Lions Glitterati were in the USA for the 100th celebrations and, due to last minute diary changes, many of our local VIPs were unable to attend. So it was left to our own Past District Governor and Council Chairman, Lion Ian Gammage to conduct the ceremony, which he did admirably.
News from the Carers Cottage is that our new windows have been delivered and we are extremely grateful to a new company, Mastercraft Windows and Doors, of Albion Park for their generosity.
Please keep Sunday, September 10, in your diaries. It's the Hot Rod Show at Black Beach and we will be running our famous BBQ
