Jimmy Sweeney at half had the Shamrocks backs back pedalling with his little darts. Kadin Cowley again played well above his weight division with great defence and the 10 all score line at half time set the scene for a great final 40 minutes.
The forwards started well with Bob Dallaglio at number eight playing out of his favoured position of prop. His probing runs kept the Shammies honest.
Shamrocks got a couple quick tries to their fast number 11. But as the momentum changed for Kiama with some great forward pick and drives, the referee started cramping, causing frequent blowing of the whistle and with his arm always pointing towards the Shamrocks try line.
The game in what could have been a great spectacle fizzed-out to a Shamrocks win 36–17.
Kiama’s second grade team played well against what is believed to be second grade premiers Shamrocks.
When Kiama had the ball things went well, Harrison Lowe had a great game and was well supported by Robbie Guevara in at prop.
The elder statesman of the side Brian Harris, Chris Meizer and Peter Hart had solid games. The seconds lost, but they kept Shamrocks to less points in the second half than the first.
This Saturday Kiama take on Campbelltown at Kiama Showground with first grade kicking off at 3pm. It will be ladies day so get a nice frock on and head on down.
