When asked after the council meeting on Thursday, Kiama councillors of diverse political persuasions agreed the government has been liberal in its spending.
“It’s good for the people of NSW, and good for the incumbent government, because a lot of the promises they made are going to be delivered shortly before the election,” Cr Neil Reilly said.
“It’s smart politics.
“They would be nuts not to share some of the averice, they’re doing okay on the back of stamp duty.
“The whole community will do well out of it."
Meanwhile, former Labor state MP Matt Brown, now a councillor, condemned the Liberal government for “reckless overspending”.
“I think it’s a good Labor budget, it’s big spending,” he said.
“I like to see capital works; it employs a lot of workers and local businesses.
“However, a sensible state budget at this time when we have good stamp duty revenue is to start saving the acorns and waiting for a rainy day when we need to spend.”

Kiama council engineering and works director Gino Belsito applauded the government for injecting funds to the Minnamurra walkway and cycleway.
“All I know is we have a project in Kiama, and it’s going to be fully funded,” he said.
“It’ll be a good thing because of the safety issue, cyclists are going and putting themselves at risk, they can’t see around the bends.”
The Minnamurra Rainforest Centre Infrastructure and Experience Invigoration project will also receive $4.7 million in capital funding over three years.
