Hunter Nicholls, 16, came third at the Australian Bodyboarding Association Northern Beaches Pro on June 17.
On his best wave at Whale Beach, he scored 7.5 for a big manoeuvre.
Nicholls started bodyboarding competitively less than two years ago, and has formed strong bonds with rivals, and gained respect from those with a stake in the industry.
His major sponsor, Basic Boards, provides him with custom-made boards, and he rides for the Summer Winter Scene team.
Nearly every day, he heads to his favourite surf break at Mystics.
“It’s the perfect wedge, one of the best waves around for bodyboarding,” he said.
Next, he looks forward to Nationals in QLD in August.
“We’ll see what happens,” he said.
“Hopefully I get on the world tour one day.”
