Wollongong will host its first official Splendour In The Grass sideshow with British rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen.
They’ll headline a gig with Bec Sandridge, The Vanns and Bishop Briggs in support at Uni Hall, University of Wollongong on July 25.
Ben Tillman, of co-presenter Yours and Owls, said Catfish are selling out stadiums in the UK so this was a massive feat.
“I feel like it means Wollongong is more and more solidifying itself on the touring circuits and … big national promoters are seeing Wollongong as a vyable stop,” Tillman said.
“I just think it’s a bit of a turning point and hopefully it keeps happening again.
“We might have had bands on [the Splendour lineup] but this is an actual co-present.”
Tickets to Splendour In The Grass, a three-day music event in Byron Bay, are hot property with the event usually selling out within hours (or less) of going on sale.
While official sideshows are mostly held in Sydney or Melbourne.
