We had a pretty successful market last week despite a cold and uncertain start. Our seafood raffle is becoming popular, especially among the other stallholders, one of whom seems to win it each month.
The Changeover dinner occurred on June 22. At this event, the new Board was inducted and we received a wrap up report from the outgoing President which included a list of all the financial contributions we have made to International, National and local organisations including local families. One of his more pleasurable parts of the meeting was when he made the awards to those Lions who have made a great contribution to the work of the club over the past year.
The Carers cottage project is still gaining interest from external authorities. We are waiting on a set of replacement windows which should be with us in a couple of weeks. Once they are installed we will paint and apply the cladding.
KIAMA ROTARY
Last week the club again acknowledged the great work taking place in all sectors of the community by presenting cheques to the Kiama Scouts Group and the Dementia-Friendly Kiama Initiative.
President David Smark presented a cheque for $500 to Scout Leader Greg Crofts to assist in purchasing a new oven for their kitchen. Kiama Rotary has had a long history of working with Kiama Scouts going right back to our foundation in 1952 when we assisted with the construction of the Scout Hall - our first project in the local community.
President David also presented an additional $1000 to Nick Guggisberg, Manager Community & Cultural Development for Kiama Council. This funding continues Kiama Rotary’s ongoing support of the Dementia-Friendly Kiama initiative.
The project helps raise awareness of dementia with information sessions, public lectures and education opportunities for all members of the community; and works with organisations to promote volunteering, employment and other social engagement opportunities for people with dementia. It also works to improve the physical environment in Kiama and surrounds, such as providing better signage in public areas.
