A Kiama bird infamous for swooping and attacking shoppers has been killed.

Kiama council workers cordoned off a section of Kiama Village shopping centre to shoot the pee wee on Tuesday morning.

Last week, council received a permit from National Parks and Wildlife to cull the bird after reports of vicious attacks in the last month.

A local optometrist attended to at least 10 people sustaining injuries from the bird.

Earlier attempts to scare the bird away from the shopping centre failed – Kiama Village installed two imitation owls on the roof to deter the bird.
