A brand new perpetual award “For an outstanding act of bravery during a rescue by a current or former club member” was donated by the grateful survivors of a capsized boat on Narooma Bar in 2015.

“Just shaking hands with someone, looking them in the eye and thanking them for saving your life just didn’t seem enough,” said Don Stokes, the skipper of boat who presented the award. “This act is what SLSC is about and we are grateful.”

Former SLSC members Daniel Simpson and Joe Nugent together with current patrol member Dan Ephraemson, where involved in the rescue along with two other members of the public.

Daniel, Joe and Dan were recipients of a national award which appeared in Narooma News three weeks ago. 

The past season’s SLSC service was also recognised with awards for Junior Patrol Person going to Cyann Vlatkovic, Male Patrol Person went to Sebastion Bachler and Female Patrol Person of the Year went to Gillian Kearney, who along with Jeff Newton took out the President’s Award.

Club Person of the Year was awarded to club secretary and patrol member, Glenn Bywater with president Ben Bate describing Glenn as his “right hand man” with club administration. 

In his closing address club captain Joe Halsey added, for a small club with only 40 patrolling members,  the club put in many hours of service to keep the beach safe.

“It’s a great effort and I thank everyone for their continued hard work,” he said.

Local caterers Alan and Kim Newbold of  Mr Bold Catering providing a sumptuous three-course meal, while local musicians The Lily Trap combined forces with friends from up the coast to provide six hours of almost non-stop music. 

Narooma SLSC is also hosting the Far South Coast Branch Presentation at Club Narooma on June 3, where several members and events are nominated for awards as well.
