Mr Houghton received the award at a St John NSW Investiture ceremony for volunteers, which acknowledges outstanding service to the community in their mission of saving lives through first aid.
The awards were presented to 12 St John (NSW) volunteers who have demonstrate a long-term commitment to providing leadership and an exemplary level of voluntary service to the community.
CEO of St John NSW Philip Kimbell, said volunteers make up an essential part of the organisation and help make communities a better place.
“These volunteers have made significant contributions to their communities through their dedication to St John. This award is testament to their ongoing commitment to service” he said.
In 2016, over 3,000 volunteers across the state provided an astounding 152,000 hours of community service aimed at making the community a safer place, building up resilience and equipping people to save a life.
St John NSW offers a range of first aid courses for beginners through to recertification.
