Stratton, Campion and Kidman join Croisette clique at 2017 Cannes Film Festival

Australian films are disappointingly thin on the ground at this year's Cannes Film Festival, which opens with the usual degree of glitz on Wednesday night. At least we know, however, that David Stratton will be there to fly the flag. Sally Aitken's documentary David Stratton: A Cinematic Life will be shown in the Cannes Classics section of the famous festival, alongside such pearls of the past as Blow-Up (1966) and Belle de Jour (1967). As a critic, he was a festival fixture for decades; now he is a festival friend. If he weren't already rated a national treasure, this would surely earn him those stripes.
