Murchie’s side defeated their junior Kiwi counterparts 46-22 at Canberra’s GIO Stadium – making it three wins on the trot for the Australians in the mid-year Test.

“It was an awesome experience and one I'll never forget that’s for sure,” Murchie said.

“I think I did well out there when I came on, considering the calibre of players around me, it made my job easy.

“When I got out there, I just tried to bring as much energy as possible, to help the team win.”

The 19-year-old, who now plays for the Canberra Raiders in the National Youth Competition, thoroughly enjoyed the whole week leading up to the game too.

​”The preparation was great - there was a big focus on staying in your regular routine and getting the little things like diet done right, throughout the week and leading into the game,” he said.

“I'm just tried to enjoy the whole camp and the game, while trying and soak up and learn as much as I could from the older boys in the squad.”

Murchie, who has also played for the Gerringong Lions, hopes this is a springboard into higher honours in the future.

“I’ll now head back to club footy - put my head down and work hard the rest of this season,” he said.

“Playing for the junior Kangaroos is obviously the top honour for my age group, so hopefully this pushes me forward and closer to my dream of an NRL debut in the future.”
