This was the third year in which the City v Country Junior Hot Shots Tournament, sanctioned by Tennis Australia, has been held at the Kiama Tennis Club.
It took place from April 20 to April 23.
This year there were three teams competing; Jensen's City Community Tennis from the Surry Hills area of Sydney; Smash Tennis Centre from Campbelltown, and Kiama & Shellharbour District Tennis Association, which incorporates the Kiama, Oak Flats and Albion Park areas.
Each team featured three sides of four players in three different categories.
These included orange ball (up to 10 years old), green ball (10-12 years old) and traditional yellow ball (up to 18 years old).
Lower compression (orange and green) balls are now being utilised to encourage boys and girls to commence playing the game of tennis at an earlier age.
Play commenced on Thursday at 12noon between Jensen's City Community Tennis and KSDTA.
This encounter set the tone for the remainder of the tournament, with some tremendous tennis played over the six courts.
That night a welcoming dinner was provided for the visiting teams.
Sunday turned out to be a cliff-hanger with the team from Campbelltown playing their Sydney rivals.
The final outcome was decided by just four games, with the side from Jensen's City Community Tennis winning the day.
Organisers said the tournament was a success, with a great deal of positive feedback from players and parents.
Kiama Tennis Club boasts one hard court and six flood-lit artificial-grass tennis courts, as well as two hard courts at its Blowhole complex.
There’s also a double-width tennis wall available for use by all community members. Competition and social play is available for both adult and junior players. Fully qualified staff provide coaching for players of all abilities, from beginners through to advanced competition players.
Kiama has been selected as a host for numerous regional tournaments due to its high standard facilities.
