Meet this week’s ‘local face’, Becky Guggisberg.
Name: Becky Guggisberg.
Occupation: Full-time artist, and also casually employed as a registered nurse in an emergency department.
I took the plunge to resign from my permanent job 18 months ago.
Suburb: Kiama.
Hobbies: I am very interested in yoga and have been practicing since I was about 12.
I love that this will be a strong force within my life, all my life.
I also love movies, live productions, comedy, cabaret and music.
I am a sucker for a good story.
I love to cook, dance, garden and hang out with friends.
I love to travel and discover how other people live. I love to swim.
I run most days with one of my best friends – my dog Spirit.
She is the absolute bomb; I love her to bits.
A fun fact about me: My daughter pointed out that I have been singing the wrong lyrics to Amy Winehouse’s song Valerie; I thought it was Lionel Ray.
Just quietly, I think my version is better.
My favourite things about this area: The natural beauty of this area, its community inclusiveness and that so many people come to have a holiday where I am fortunate enough to live.
I am constantly inspired by the relaxed nature of coastal living.
What makes this area unique: Last year, when our local council was under threat of forced amalgamation, it was a revelation to see our community unite to keep our independence.
Hearing the hours of heartfelt individual spoken submissions was a privilege and I believe unique.
I feel so fortunate and proud to be part of a thoughtful, cohesive community.
Guggisberg currently has work on display at the Beachside Emporium in Kiama.
