A two-day fitness festival is heading to Kiama to raise funds and awareness for mental health movement, LIVIN.
LIVIN is a not-for-profit suicide prevention group.
The charity seeks to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and successfully connect, support and encourage people to talk about their feelings, issues and problems via their motto, ‘It Ain’t Weak to Speak’.
The Healthy LIVIN Festival, which will take place on the weekend of May 13-14 at Black Beach, will be headlined by Kiama’s own Tanya Poppett, who is now one of the leading fitness figures in the country boasting more than 352,000 Instagram followers.
Joining her will be leading nutritionist Moodi Dennaoui; former elite gymnast turned fitness entrepreneur Lauren Hannaford and Australian Military strength and conditioning coach Kev Toonen.
With a main stage running mass participation workouts on the hour every hour, a ‘Red Zone’ for smaller technique and drill-based skills and a pavilion with seminars and workshops, organisers hope to attract hundreds of fitness enthusiasts of all levels.
Supporting the celebrity trainers will be a string of local talent, including head trainers from Coastal Fitness Movement in Kiama Downs; Tom Baker, current coach of world tour surfer Sally Fitzgibbons and Gerringong personal trainer Joel Roberts.
“We’re really excited to be launching this event in Kiama next month and have been floored by the response we’ve received,” event co-director Ashley John Hatch said.
“It’s really coming together and we’ve got a huge weekend of fitness, activity and exhibitors in store.
“It’s been awesome to engage the celebrities, but more so to showcase the local talent that call Kiama home.
“This area is bursting with amazing trainers and elite athletes, but it’s also a really healthy, active area and that’s what we want to harness and help promote.
“We’ve got access to the best training facilities you could ask for; beaches, parks, mountains, coastline, stairs, it’s all here.”
Tickets, which provide unlimited access to workshops and workouts all weekend, start at $49.
