The Gerringong Surf Music Festival is a weekend long celebration of surf music featuring some of the best bands from Gerringong, Kiama and the Illawarra.
Established in 2015, the GSMF is held during the first week of May in association with the Werri Slash surf competition, which is celebrating 30 years.
The weekend runs from May 5-7.
The music festival acts include Mitchell Anderson and the Organic Orchestra, Mac Tango, Kingdog and the Catz, The Traks, The Zilizies, Tinderry, Seven Suns, Jack Rose, Grapevine Jane, Fripps and Fripps, Argy Rakis, Salty, Sandy Feet and Sean Emmett.
Event organiser Adam Loxley said the festival has really grown on the back of previous years’ success.
“It was such a great night of music and a huge crowd,” he said of last year’s event.
“This year we are building two stages, we have 14 different bands, local food, beer and wines stalls, jumping castles and face-painting. It should be great afternoon and night.”
The Gerringong Surf Music Festival hosts a variety of music styles.
Music to look out for includes the funky rhythms of the Mitchell Anderson Organic Orchestra, jamming reggae by Mac Tango, and dance tunes from Kingdog and the Cats, to name a few.
The Werri Slash is celebrating 30 years of competition and runs Saturday though to Sunday afternoon.
The Slash attracts some of the best surfers from throughout the South Coast and always features strong competition.
The Gerringong Surf Music festival officially starts at 12noon on the Saturday in the Gerringong Town Hall and park.
The Gerringong Bowling Club is also hosting bands on Friday night and on Sunday to coincide with the Werri Slash presentation party.
“We really wanted the Surf Music Festival and Werri Slash to be a weekend long destination event for tourists and with support from Kiama council and the bowling club we have managed to achieve that,” Mr Loxley said.
The schedule is as follows:
*Opening night: Friday, May 5: Gerringong Bowling Club. Live music 7pm to 10pm (free event).
*Gerringong Surf Music Festival: Saturday, May 6, Gerringong Town Hall: Live music, retail, food and beverage stalls, jumping castle, face-painting, 12pm to 11pm (tickets $20).
*Werri Slash Presentation Party: Sunday, May 7, Gerringong Bowling Club: Live music 3pm to 8pm (free event).
