Kiama council has unveiled a series of activities for school kids and parents for the forthcoming holidays.
Kiama Library has teamed up with the K.I.S.S Arts Festival to run a session for kids to make floating paper lanterns.
Children’s Services officer Elizabeth Skorulis said the floating lanterns workshop, inspired by the Loi Krathong festival celebrated in Thailand each year, has proven popular.
“We’ll have local artists helping the kids make their own lanterns to take home,” Ms Skorulis said.
“They can also help make larger lotus-shaped lanterns from recycled paper and newspaper, which will be floated on Kiama Harbour during the K.I.S.S Arts Festival.”
The lantern-making workshop is free and taking place on Friday, April 21 from 10.30am. It is suitable for children aged six to 16.
The holidays also features the return of the popular family LEGO evening at the library on Tuesday, April 11, starting at 6pm.
For those who prefer paper and cardboard to plastic bricks you can learn how to make an infinity (or explosion) box for that special gift that keeps on giving.
An infinity box cascades outwards as the lid is removed, unravelling to reveal decorative messages as you search for the gift inside.
The infinity box session is suitable for kids eight to 12 years and is being held on Wednesday, April 12 at 10.30am. There’s a cost of $3 per child to cover materials.
Finally, the Kiama Leisure Centre is providing a range of more vigorous holiday activities, including:
*Indoor sport and swim - Friday, April 21, 11am to 3pm.
*Gym fun and swim – Monday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 19, 11am to 3pm.
*Gym fun, sport and swim – Wednesday, April 12, 11am to 3pm.
These activities are suitable for kids between five and 12 years and cost $20 for the first child and $18 for each additional child.
