Despite all the forebodings about the weather our BBQ at the Camsday last weekend went very well; there were some very interesting machines there and we had a good time. Let’s hope they do it again in Kiama next year.
Those of you passing our Respite House project at 105 Shoalhaven St this week will notice some changes! Firstly, some of the trees with roots threatening the structure have had to be removed, so that currently the rear looks like the results of a bad haircut. But we hope to do some landscaping later if funds permit. We also have erected the fence and the sponsor sign. As you will see there is plenty of room left to add more names as generous people come forward.
Our next event will be a BBQ at the Wings over the Illawarra. On the Saturday, May 6, Shellharbour Lions will be operating the stall and we will do Sunday, May 7.
KIAMA ROTARY
Last week we heard from Kiama Rotarian, Barry Wilson who provided an update on the wonderful work being performed by ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children).
ROMAC was founded in 1988 to provide specialist treatment for children from developing countries, in the form of life-saving and/or dignity-restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country. Since then, ROMAC has changed the lives and in many cases saved the lives, of over 500 sick children at no cost to their families.
We are very proud to say that Kiama Rotarians hold two of the five national ROMAC Board positions; with Barry serving as Operations Director and Peter Maitland as Secretary.
ROMAC’s key objectives include: providing hope and restoring dignity to transform children’s lives; providing the best possible surgical and medical expertise; engaging Rotary and the community at all levels to fund and support the ROMAC cause; maintaining and improving the quality of the management process and ensure high quality governance of the ROMAC program.
The ongoing fund-raising work performed by our members together with the generous support provided by family and friends, help make projects such as this possible.
KIAMA CWA
Our next meeting is on Easter Tuesday, April 18, starting at 1pm at the CWA Hall at the rear of 70 Shoalhaven St. Our guest speaker will be Lt Colonel Garry Jesser. Visitors and new members are most welcome.
We would like to thank Dr John Pearce, local food scientist who spoke at our last meeting on "The Chemistry of Cooking”. His excellent talk and demonstration included the chemistry behind food textures and the importance of an emulsifier and how this related to the different methods for making scones.
Congratulations to our member Mahin who has 2 of her beautiful handicraft items selected at the Group Handicraft Day to go to the State competition. Our hall hire has some vacancies so contact Jan on 4233 2314.
