This is clear to see in the hilarious production of Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Town’s Women’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery.
The scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines forgotten, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times, as the ladies present their ambitious evening's entertainment with the cunning whodunit, "Murder at Checkmate Manor’’.
This hilarious play within a play opens at the Roo Theatre in Shellharbour on Friday night.
The play is one of 10 in the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Town’s Women’s Guild Dramatic Society series written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr.
The series, comedies in which an amateur dramatic society murdered Shakespeare, Dickens, and Gilbert and Sullivan, still gets laughs all around the world.
Veronica Dzelde, Tania Giustiniani, Roshelle Williams, Jessica Barnes and Paul Girdlestone star in the play directed by Illawarra funny man Tim Collins.
Collins, who has played roles in numerous comedies and knows how to milk a production for every laugh possible, is ‘’ecstatic’’ this play is his directorial debut.
‘’It has been great to be given the opportunity to direct a production for the Roo Theatre Company – and what a fun one to start with,’’ he said.
The director said the entire team had blended as one to ensure the show runs like clockwork.
‘’I have been blessed with such an amazing and talented cast that have helped bring this production to life, and worked so hard together to develop our set and our amazing set artistry,’’ Collins said.
Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Town’s Women’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery opens on March 31 and its seven show season finishes on April 8.
Tickets cost $25/$20. Details at roo-theatre.com.au or call 4297 2891.
