Kiama has had a Country Women's Association of NSW branch since 1938, and own their own premises in Shoalhaven Street.
They host their formal meetings on the third Tuesday of each month and aim to continue welcoming new members and membership inquiries.
Meanwhile, the Wollondilly Group of the CWA ran an awareness stall and held cooking demonstrations at the recent Kiama Show, with both the existing and planned Kiama branches involved.
Organisers reported they had many membership inquiries at the show, and therefore decided to host a meeting to take the potential Evening Branch to the next stage.
This meeting will outline how CWA operates, how a new local branch will fit in and seek interest from anyone wishing to stand for formal roles.
Jennifer Bowe, Wollondilly CWA Group president said the meeting will be run by CWA members from the Wollondilly Group.
“I will be ably assisted by Jann Kalff, group secretary and from Jervis Bay branch,” she said.
“We will be happy to answer all questions and provide the help to get the new Kiama Evening Branch underway.
“In the Highlands, there were five branches who had their formal meetings during the day.
“Five years ago an Evening Branch was established, which has been very successful and complemented the existing CWA work in the community.”
Mrs Bowe said CWA was going through a transitional phase throughout the state.
“Some of our more elderly members are having to cope with technology in its various fast moving forms,” she said.
“State branches are being encouraged to adapt to today's community needs.
“Some members may find these changes difficult, but we need to shake ourselves up a little if we are to maintain our strong reputation for helping in times of emergency, for supporting rural women and children especially and acting in a lobbying role for important issues affecting rural communities.
“Evening branches are one way to stimulate this evolution as we encourage younger women, younger ideas and lots of energy to join our organisation.”
The first meeting will be held at Kiama Leagues Club on Friday, March 24 at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
