Having created a ceramic piece titled ‘The Bodies of Boudica,’ Amelia drew inspiration from women of a bygone era to create an artwork in line with the exhibition’s theme, ‘Wild Things’. 

It showcases exemplary work created by the top 60 visual arts students in New South Wales. 

Amelia said being selected to exhibit her piece was a welcomed surprised. 

“It’s a great feeling,” she said.

“I’m excited and amazed that my artworks will be showing in the Armory for ARTEXPRESS.

“I was quite shocked when I was told that they were chosen, and I’m grateful for this opportunity.” 

Through careful consideration, Amelia selected to a ceramic medium to best convey her meaning. 

“My major work …  is about the stereotypes of women, and how over time beliefs and values deteriorate leaving behind remains of the past, such as artefacts,” she said. 

“I used ceramics because it enabled me to create my work in the form of an artefact, and replicate objects that have aged with time.

“The texture of ceramics also allows the work to be layered and create depth within the piece.” 

Having completed her HSC, Amelia hopes to continue studying fine arts. 

ARTEXPRESS at the Armory will be presented at Sydney Olympic Park, every day from Tuesday 28 February – Tuesday 25 April 2017.
