Name: Mark Westhoff.
Occupation: A now happily retired teacher of 35 years with the last 20 years of my teaching service at Gerringong Public School.
Suburb: Gerringong, winners of the Group 7 Rugby League in 2016. Go the Lions!
Hometown: Caringbah/Lilli Pilli in ‘the Shire’. Primary school Lilli Pilli, high school Caringbah.
Hobbies: Watching and going to live sporting events such as league (Sharks and Gerringong), union (the Waratahs), soccer (the Socceroos), AFL (Swanies) and golf.
Playing and participating in a number of sports: golf, tennis, bowls and walking. Enjoying the camaraderie and activities of the Lions Club of Gerringong, where I’m currently the secretary.
Fun fact about me: Mistaken at least twice in the past couple of years as George Negus. Once at the airport in Townsville and again when I was at a conference at the Gold Coast.
My favourite thing about the area: The people. The friendly, caring and giving community who seem to be always there to support an individual or family or group who are having a hard time; physically and also financially.
Our service clubs and volunteers are the jewels in our community’s crown.
What makes the area unique: We are close enough to the ‘big smoke’ Sydney for entertainment and vital facilities, but yet a short drive brings us back to our area, a piece of paradise which is the envy of countless people who have to live ‘somewhere else’.
