The pair will appear in Group Three of the reality cooking show, where each duo take turns to transform an ordinary home into an instant restaurant for one night only.
In total there are 18 teams.
Mell, 40, and Cyn, 42, will initially be up against Mark and Chris, “footy friends” from Victoria; Caitie and Demi, “besties” from Victoria; Lama and Sarah, “cousins” from South Australia; Brett and Marie, “first loves” from Queensland; and Valerie and Courtney, “mother and daughter” from Queensland.
Cyn said the pair are definitely winning material and acknowledged that some people may be intimidated by their confidence.
“When people first meet us they tend to judge us as pretentious, stuck up cows,” she said.
“That’s their problem, not ours. I don’t really care what people think about me.”
Mell, a licensed conveyancer who works in the law firm Cyn owns with her husband, added they “tell it how it is”.
The duo’s strength is savoury and sweet. Their signature dishes are satay chicken, meatballs, profiteroles and chocolate eclairs.
They’ll need to impress returning judges Manu Feildel and Pete Evans, plus five other teams, at a three course dinner party at their home to avoid elimination.
Remaining teams then embark on cooking challenges at various locations in the hope of staying in the competition, before finalists battle it out in Kitchen HQ.
“They are a lot more confident that previous years,” Evans said.
“It has stepped up a notch.”
Acclaimed chefs Colin Fassnidge, Karen martini, Guy Grossi and Liz Egan also return to Kitchen HQ to judge the new batch of aspiring home cooks.
Grossi noted this season would be most remembered for “kitchen wars”, while both Feildel and Martini both said “pickles”!
In 2016 an average audience of 2.32 million people watched Melbourne sisters Tasia and Gracia win the grand prize of $250,000. Another $250,000 is on the line this time around.
Last September Mell and Cyn were spotted at Coles supermarket in Fairy Meadow with an MKR film crew, though the show’s publicist was sworn to secrecy about their identities until now.
The show is expected to begin airing late January, though it could be a few weeks after the premier before Group Three episodes run.
