Cold green water and the full  moon is in play. He started catching a few by using small cubes of pilchards on a Mustard 5/0 Demon circle hook just in behind the break. “The key is to let the hook do the work. Simply keep tight line and not hitting at every bite – a heavy lead and light leader is important for circles to work. Most of the time you only know you had bit before you have a fish on.” Thanks Ron.

Narooma News journalist Stan Gorton caught a big "Jenny" mud crab while prawning on the weekend but didn't have the heart to keep her. The prawns continue to run well in local estuaries and should improve as the dark of the moon approaches.

Dash from the Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler and his mate Hippie had a good session on Wagonga last week catching all kinds of species, including a small Sampson fish or amberjack and some longfin pike. 

“If there is one thing about Wagonga Inlet, it has the element of surprise. You never know what you might stumble across while fishing this awesome paradise,” Dash reports.

“Today's plan was a few bream on surface lures, fishing over the weed beds that are the perimeter of the inlet. But today while the bream didn't play, every other weird species that you think you would never come across surface fishing reared its ugly or pretty head. At least some good sized tailor played the game to keep us entertained.”

Bermi bait & tackle reported on Monday that Nev and co on 'Moose Knuckle' dropped a fish 36'24 on the edge. “Current is running hard to the south again and bait is hard to find. Shane Cox is fishing off Merimbula and was 4.2.1. Had a double and got one, water is 23.5 and current was slower at around 1kt. Kingfish were good today at the island and some nice ones were caught late evening yesterday too.”

NSGFC report: On Friday morning the Narooma Sports and Game Fishing Club hosted the first fishing clinic of the year for 6 to 14 year kids, supported by NSW Fisheries. Each kid takes home a fishing rod and a small tackle box. A great morning was with everyone catching fish but only one keeper caught by 10-year-old Flynn Rumble. Jamie Hayne got herself a small trevally and Matthew Moore and Mark Argento were both game to kiss their catch. A big thank you to the ladies providing the morning tea and the barbeque lunch, also a big thank you to all the members lending a helping hand. I am sure John Scott thinks he has found a new way to save on fuel by waiting outside the bar and getting a tow in by Marine Parks, thank you fellows for a good job. Again another great Friday night was held at the club and nice see all the old faces, and some young ones, one even going out on Taylor’s jetty and reeling in a small kingfish.  Unfortunately, it was undersized but he made up for it by landing a 45cm flathead later that night. NSGFC clubrooms open 4pm till 9pm on Friday. As usual the club rooms, situated on the inlet near the restaurants, will be open for fish stories, drinks and snacks from 4pm till 9pm on Friday. Bermi social anglers: A weekend of excitement was offered to members of the Bermagui Country Club Social Anglers’ Club at Sunday’s barbecue get-together. Overall category winners for 2016 - Jim Manton winner bream and dusky flathead – Robert Sheering sandy/tiger flathead – Ian Reid gummy shark, jackass morwong, rubberlip morwong, snapper and trevally – Michael Broder leather jacket – Robert Brown salmon – Graham Hansen tailor.  The offshore champion Ian Reid and the onshore champion Robert Brown. Lady champion – Gwen Symes. President Fran Vercoe thanked members for their contributions to the barbecue and the cooks.  New members and visitors, who felt very much at home, enjoying the company. Raffle was a feature with Elaine Reid winning the major prize – runners-up Lorraine (visitor), Justin (new member) and Pat Brown.
