The 169th annual Kiama Show will take place on Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 at Kiama Showground.
The show schedule lists more than 1000 classes spread over the horse, cattle, woodchop, rodeo, Illawarra Youth Challenge, Pet Show and Pavilion sections.
Kiama Show Society president Michael Brennan said the number of entries had been strong.
“The Pavilion is really up there with any of the shows; it’s a great place to display the exhibitions.”
Mr Brennan said Kiama was “the oldest show on the coast”.
“We’ve always been a very strong agricultural show. The environment is changing… The number of dairy farmers (in the municipality) has decreased, so we’ve made sure to adapt to other things.
“Last year the weather wasn’t too kind to us. We’re looking forward to fine weather this year.”
Mr Brennan said adapting included aiming to provide quality entertainment, and getting more schools involved in the show.
The entertainment program includes the Lumberjack Show, ARD FMX stunt motorbikes, CWA cooking and John Garbriel gardening demonstrations, and the Alkazar Circus tent.
The rodeo also makes a return to the Friday night.
The ‘Butterfly House Experience’ will make its Kiama Show debut.
Franchise owner Tegan Smith said this gave all ages the opportunity to “interact with and have photos taken with butterflies”.
They will also host educational talks about butterflies, and enable those attending to “see the details up close that you don’t get to see while they’re fluttering around”.
There will also be the fireworks finale at 10pm on Saturday night.
The Kiama Showgirl competition is the local stage for The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition.
Participants in the 2017 Kiama competition are Taylor Reid, Andria Binkins and Stephanie Panecasio. The winner will be announced at 6.30pm on Friday.
The show kicks off from about 9am both days.
