Good mate of Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler, Vlado had a cracking start to his offshore season with a big stud dolphinfish caught last week in the warm currents being experienced off Narooma. 

The crew of trailer boat Extreme on January 4 battled and brought into Bermagui a monster 276kg blue marlin, which was weighed in at the angling club weigh station.  Malcolm on 'Black Boy' caught and tagged a nice striped marlin on the same day.

Then on Tuesday, Rob Prins and brother Christopher on 'Rush' landed a nice striped marlin and had two others up. “Otherwise it was pretty slow, water is still 24, the current had slowed a little and bait was up nicely,” Bermi Bait & Tackle reported.

Over the weekend that kingfish remained on the chew with the best specimen being Playstation's 15kg model give or take.

“A number of customers did well, live baits the winner on the day. Water temps remained high and so we may keep seeing a few stray dolphinfish come in. Inshore off Bermagui, some big sand flathead are still being landed and larger morwong.”

Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Club – NSGFC is hosting its Junior Fishing Clinic this Friday, January 13 at the clubhouse, 25 Riverview Drive, from 8am till 12 noon.

Activities for 6 to 14 year olds include bait gathering, knot tying, rigging and learning to cast and fish on the flats. Cost is $20 and includes lunch, with rods and reels supplied. Booking is essential as there are only 18 places available. Contact Jan Hemmingsen on 0412 100 596.

The club meanwhile held a fishing day and barbeque at the club last Friday morning, unfortunately not many fish caught, a few small bream, snapper, tailor and some flathead. Maybe the fish are well fed from all the baitfish still in the inlet. Some members also ventured out to Montague island chasing kingfish only to catch undersized fish, but they bagged out on flathead on the way back.

A junior member Aliesha McPherson, staying with her parents at the Tuross Lakeside Tourist Park had more luck bagging a 65cm flathead.  This girl is becoming a good contender for the club’s junior prize.

Earlier in the week another member also ventured out to the island only to catch several undersized kingfish and having to jostle with about 80 other boats. And yet my neighbour had some young people staying and they caught seven keepers, some up to 90cm, so the fish are there, you just gotta find them.

Member please note in your diaries the NSGFC ANSA Convention is on Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12.

We are now having the last Friday of each month as an eat-in evening, with a different menu per month where you can stay at the club and eat together. We’ve had hamburger nights, a pizza night, soup night, hotdogs and bacon and egg roll nights recently.
