Billings reverse swept Ashton Turner three times in the one over, helping himself to two boundaries past point as part of an unorthodox but entertaining 40 from 30 balls in front of the 30,013 strong crowd.

Sydney were only chasing 131 for victory, and just as Billings looked set to anchor the innings he pulled a long hop outside off stump straight to Jhye Richardson in the deep off Mitchell Marsh's bowling.

It didn't matter as Jordan Silk strode out to join captain Moises Henriques with the run chase in cruise control.

The pair put on 38 before Henriques was controversially given out leg before wicket despite the hint of an inside edge.

"The umpire gave it out so that's the final decision, can't change it now," Henriques said.

Silk's dismissal with 17 runs still needed for victory gave the Scorchers some hope, but allrounder Johan Botha made sure Sixers fans need not worry taking a six and two fours off the 18th over to round out a six-wicket win with 12 balls to spare.

Andrew Tye was the Scorchers' best, finishing with 3-15 off his four overs.

Shaun Marsh failed to give Test selectors anything to think about in his first game since early November, scoring just eight from 11 having recovered sufficiently from a finger injury.

The Scorchers also opted to rest speed demon Mitchell Johnson, who might well have given his side the chance to defend its modest total.

Sydney flies to Adelaide on New Year's Eve for a clash with the Strikers while Perth is in Melbourne on Thursday to square off against the Renegades.
